Aphorisms
Aphorisms relating bodies to emotional states - Lacy’s simultaneously humorous and clinical sensibility is often on evidence in her photos and other works.
Cold Hands, Warm Heart., ca. 1975
How to Deliver a Crippling Blow to Your Gynecologist If He Gets Fresh with You, 1977
In the mid-seventies, the book Our Bodies Our Selves was part of a feminist movement in medicine that Lacy was involved with, as a former pre-med student. This is one of several photo collages that reference the Vagina Dentata myths that operate in many cultures, and about which she has written for a Creative Time publication.
An Old Wives' Tale about How to Tell the Size of a Man's Penis . . . without Really Looking, 1977
One of a series of photographic works exploring body parts and language, particularly sexualized aphorisms; several focused on genitals of both sexes.
Penis Sizes, 1977
Combining aphorisms about how to tell the size of penises, irony and statistical methods consistent with her science background, this is one of Lacy’s collection of language/body/emotional state series.
